The beloved holiday tradition Suite Life returns with a VIP Soundcheck Reception and the inaugural Suite Life Paradigm Awards. With musical direction by notable Pittsburgh-based saxophonist Yoko Suzuki and direction by the incomparable Monteze Freeland, this year’s production features youth artists from Alumni Theater Company, who share fresh perspectives on the legacies of Strayhorn and Kelly. Joining Yoko is an all-star band featuring Carolyn Perteete (vocal), Cliff Barnes (organ), Mark Strickland (guitar), and James Johnson III (drums). Media Design by Scott Andrew and Sand Media LLC.

The concert uplifts Pittsburgh as a home for today’s remarkable young artists, and the city that once inspired two of its greatest cultural visionaries, Billy Strayhorn and Gene Kelly. Through dance, live music, singing, and original spoken word, Suite Life reimagines timeless favorites for today.

Join us for the opening of All Our Love: The Work of Jeannine Carpenter Meiksin (1930–2021) on Saturday, November 14 3–5 PM at the American Jewish Museum at the Jewish Community Center.

Discover the work of Jeannine Meiksin (1930–2021), a gifted Pittsburgh artist whose paintings have rarely been seen publicly. All Our Love brings together work from across her lifetime, from portraiture and intimate studies to bold abstractions and geometric compositions, revealing an artist of remarkable range.

Presented by the American Jewish Museum in collaboration with Meiksin’s family and friends, the exhibition is guest-curated by artist and University of Pittsburgh professor Scott Andrew, with support from emerging curator Morgaine Stach. The exhibition takes its name from the words Meiksin used to sign cards and letters to her family. Here, those words return to her as a love letter, celebrating the artist she was and inviting others to discover her work.

Selected works will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting ACTION-Housing Inc. and the American Jewish Museum.

Join us for the Metamarthasis at the Greer Cabaret Theater September 10th-12th.

The MetaMarthasis joyfully floats on a series of oppositional forces: authenticity vs. artifice, stark minimalism vs. dazzling spectacle, high modernism vs. pop confection. This celebratory event features excerpts from Jesse Factor’s evening-length dance work The Marthaodyssey and some new surprises. In The Metamarthasis, Jesse’s studied synthesis of the “High Priestess of Modern Dance” (Martha Graham) and the “Queen of Pop” (Madonna) celebrates rigor, excess, devotion, and diva. Part modernist archive, part pop-culture pageantry, part drag extravaganza – completely fabulous.
